Karen Meeting Tomas
Meeting Tomas for the first time
by Karen Rubinstein
In June of 1999 after undergoing a lumpectomy and completing radiation treatment for breast cancer, a friend of mine who had been teaching me about meditation recognized the difficult time I was having; my inability to accept myself. She witnessed the guilt and
responsibility I took on in my interactions with others. I was full of self doubt, always judging myself harshly and never feeling “good enough” or “deserving”. She suggested that I have a session with Helenne Deutscher.
When I scheduled my first session with Helenne, I was scared and did not know what to expect. I knew my life was not working, and that I had to do something to free myself from the pain and suffering. All the years of therapies and spiritual work I had experienced helped me to acquire awareness, yet did not free me from the harsh expectations of myself.
The challenge with my physical health helped me to explore something that I might otherwise be frightened to experience. I wanted to live and enjoy a life free from emotional turmoil. I really did not know what to expect when I took Helenne’s number and called for my first appointment, I can only tell you that I never experienced such an incredible feeling of love and peace of mind. This day would forever change my life and my work as a therapist... (continued in the book The Reluctant Channel.)
Every session with Tomas is unique. In each session the deepest need of the person is addressed. The person’s life will change after the session. I can’t tell how or in what way, but their life will change. They will clearly understand what went on. It is a conversation Tomas has with the person. He will ask them, “How do you feel about that? Does it feel true to you?” (These questions are directed to the heart; they will by-pass the conscious mind). Tomas does not care which answer you give to him. If the answer is No, he will work it through with the person. It is a very gentle and loving process. In the world of Spirit there is no time. Therefore, a session has no time limit. It goes until it is finished. I have known sessions to go from under 1 hr to over 3. He will work with the person until they get it. When they leave, they have clarity as to what went on and what homework they will need to do.
